Privacy International hat eine Liste oder eine ganze Webseite mit interaktiver Karte zur Überwachungsindustrie veröffentlicht. Ob es mehr als nur ein statistisches Gimmick ist, müsste ich erst noch rausfinden. Aber ich denke es ist durchaus hilfreich und informativ und auf den ersten Blick eine sehr gute Sammlung.

Vielleicht habt ihr Spaß und Interesse an den Ideen, die ich in diesem Vortrag zum ersten Mal ein wenig ausgeführt habe und über die ich gerade und auch weiterhin nachdenken werde.

Who needs to be stopped for a search if a Police Officer can scan you from the comfort of his car?
“This technology has shown a great deal of promise as a way of detecting weapons without a physical search,” said New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly during his State of the NYPD address on Tuesday.
The gun scanning technology will help lessen the need for NYPD’s use of Stop and Frisk procedures that allowed officers to stop New Yorkers for random street interrogations or searches. In 2011, about 600,000-plus New Yorkers were stopped.

In der dradio-Sendung Breitband gab es an diesem Samstag (26.11.2011) eine Sendung mit dem Titel: Wie das Internet Probleme löst. Wie gross ist die Progrnosefähigkeit des Netzes. Anlass waren Forschungsprojekte wie FutureICT u.a.. Ich war Interviewpartner. Das Thema war interessant und die Herangehensweise der Autoren und Moderatoren ebenfalls. Zum Nachhören.
Wie das Internet Probleme löst, dradio – 26.11.2011 – in der Sendung gab es auch etwas zu Algorithmen, könnte sich also mehrfach lohnen.

While not everyone in the late 90s could be characterized as a cyberutopian, the dominant mood harbored a sense that the digital network would bring with it newfound, unregulatable freedoms [.....]
Flash forward fifteen years and the present looks significantly different from the one envisioned in the 1990s. Instead of a future of Second Life and virtual worlds, we ended up building one that more closely resembles Minority Report. Advances in technology, an increasingly regulated and monitored digital network, and a general atmosphere of securitization have yielded a world of ubiquitous, if not always visible, surveillance.
Der Inhaltverzeichnis liest sich gut und weckt die Neugier – vor allem weil es sich um Autoren und thematische Perspektiven handelt, die nicht so oft prominent vorkommen – hauptsächlich aus einem eher technische, Computer, Mensch-Maschinen-Interface, Medien Kontext. Vor allem geht es um Mobile Anwendungen und die Folgen und Konsequenzen im Zusammenhang mit Überwachung. Es könnte sich also durchaus lohnen.
